Jakarta, 8 July 2025 – Following the positive reception of its pilot community waste bank initiative, BASAKI (SKI-Guided Waste Bank), PT Sirkular Karya Indonesia (SKI) has introduced a complementary program to broaden its plastic waste management outreach. This initiative, named TONGKI (Our Shared Waste Bin), is designed to cultivate public awareness and encourage proper plastic waste segregation, particularly within educational institutions and office environments.
TONGKI bin strategically placed the cafeteria area at BINUS University @Bekasi to encourage students and staff to properly segregate plastic waste.
While BASAKI engages directly with local communities and provides economic incentives, particularly to communities who collect and sort plastic waste, TONGKI emphasizes education and behavioral change through the strategic placement of waste segregation bins, without any financial compensation. Through this approach, TONGKI encourages the development of responsible waste management habits—not only within educational or office settings, but also extending into households. Communities are even encouraged to collect plastic waste from their homes and dispose of them into the TONGKI bins.

To date, TONGKI bins have been placed at BINUS University @Bekasi and Altira Business Park, helping to instill environmental awareness among students, academic staff, and office professionals. These high-footfall areas serve as important platforms for SKI to promote circular waste practices across a broader audience. Each bin is clearly labeled to guide users in properly sorting plastic waste, reflecting SKI’s commitment to practical, scalable solutions.

BASAKI and TONGKI play complementary roles in SKI’s broader strategy to build a holistic circular waste ecosystem. Where BASAKI strengthens community engagement and economic empowerment, TONGKI provides educational infrastructure that helps shape new habits within society. TONGKI is expected to reinforce and expand this impact through planned expansions to more campuses, schools, office areas, and other urban spaces.
BINUS University @Bekasi students work together to sort collected plastic waste as part of the TONGKI program, reinforcing the importance of clean, dry, and properly separated waste before it enters the recycling process.
