The Story Behind Innovation: A Decade of Impack Research and Innovation Center (IRIC)

November 25th, 2025 – Ten years ago, on an otherwise ordinary Monday morning, a message landed on the phone of Johannes Hutapea, now the head of IRIC. It was from the President Director of PT Impack Pratama Industri Tbk (IMPC), Haryanto Tjiptodihardjo.

“Innovation,” he wrote,
“is the soul of Impack.”

Those words became the spark that set an entire movement in motion. What began as a brief message soon grew into a vision, one that took shape as IRIC. Today, it stands as the engine room of every breakthrough, every new product, and every bold step Impack has taken.

Over the past ten years, IRIC has transformed from a research lab into a place where purpose meets possibility. It has become a home for young talents, those who believe in and want to contribute to progress. Here, they experiment, discuss, and sometimes debate, but always with one shared mission: to create building materials that are smarter, stronger, and more sustainable for the community.

This year, the Company, through its subsidiary PT Sirkular Karya Indonesia, officially launched Alduro, an innovative solution for recycled multilayer roofing and boards that marks an important milestone in IRIC’s innovation journey. Alduro is produced from low-value plastic waste, waste that has long been overlooked, is difficult to process, and often ends up polluting the environment.

The introduction of Alduro is not the result of an easy process, but rather a reflection of IRIC’s long journey and determination to deliver impactful solutions. More than just an achievement, Alduro stands as IRIC’s contribution to society as it marks a decade of its presence.

Alongside Alduro, IRIC successfully commercialized Triplex PVC Foam this year, extending Impack’s innovations to Australia and New Zealand. IRIC’s journey still continues further with a growing pipeline, including Alderon for poultry and animal farming, and several other breakthrough products now in their final development stages.

When asked what truly fuels Impack’s innovation, Johannes smiled before answering:

“When we innovate,” he said, “we look for real solutions, how our products can improve lives and bring comfort to many people. Every innovation is born from collaboration, the courage to build something new, and the willingness to listen to the voices of our customers.”

Today, as IRIC celebrates its first decade, it stands not just as a milestone but as an embodiment of who Impack has become—a company that never stops innovating. From one message on a Monday morning emerged a spirit that continues to shape who Impack is today, one of the leading polymer-based building materials companies in Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific.
